Victor Noel Olson, 71 of Van Meter, IA, passed away August 18 at his home.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Van Meter American Legion Reception Center, Post 403 with Rev. Bill Steward officiating. Burial with honors will follow at Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery. Family will return to the Reception Center to greet friends after the burial.
Vic was born in Grand Mound, IA to Nels and Alice (Grau) Olson on December 27, 1945. He graduated from Calamus High School in 1964. He earned a degree in Physical Education from Luther College in 1968. He pitched for the California Angels farm team until he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. His true love of baseball was close to his heart growing up on his own field of dreams on his family’s farm. He owned Vic Young’s Sporting Goods and worked many years for All-American/Riddell selling football equipment.
He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame and was involved in the American Legion Post #403.
Vic is survived by his children, Katrina (Ryan) Davis, Todd (Maria) Olson, Nick (Laura) Olson; grandsons, Jayden Davis, Nathan Davis and Mason Victor Sollecito-Olson; brothers and sisters, Myra Jean (Charles) Peterson, Carol Ann (David) Block, Marlon (Snap) Olson, Leonard (Nancy) Olson, Harold (Jean) Olson, Myrna Kay Peterson, Paul (Carla) Olson; nieces and nephews; and many friends he met along the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Nels Jr. and Leon Olson; sister, Arla Mae Hernes; brother-in-laws, Charles Peterson, David Block and Pastor Dave Hernes; and sister-in-law, Geri Richmond.
